The choice of tracks was blindingly obvious and clear-cut, with no room for surprises, and this disappointed many aficionados who might have hoped the band would be a little more adventurous in their choice. Jon defended the list of tracks by claiming that, on listening to a lot of the older material, he was, to say the least, rather embarrassed. However, one might have hoped that there would be something more than the solitary cut from '7800 Degrees Fahrenheit' in the form of 'In And Out Of Love'. And the presence of 'Blaze Of Glory' (in essence a Jon Bon Jovi solo track) also raised a few eyebrows. However, in 20 years' time, anybody putting on a CD (or whatever form of consumable one might then be using to listen to music) of 'Cross Road ... ' as their first experience of Bon Jovi will get a reasonable idea of what made the band tick from 1984-1994. And that is something of a triumph for any band. Besides, Bon Jovi fans didn't care about any minor criticisms. They bought it in their millions, making it the biggest-selling album of the year in the UK and also saw it top the three-million sales mark in the US. |
